BEAUTIFUL FLORA- Greece in Spring
Spring in Greece is the most beautiful time of year to visit. The roadsides, olive groves and mountains are awash with wild flowers. Zakynthians are a predominantly rural community and nurture their environment. As far as possible all farming is done organically and as such wild flowers are allowed to flourish.
PERFECT TEMPERATURE – Greece in Spring
Temperatures start to rise at the beginning of April and by Easter it is pretty normal to be able to sit outside in temperatures up in the mid 20s. If you are travelling with young children, then this is a great time to visit and avoid the searing heat of the summer. It is also the perfect temperature for activities such as hiking. The walking in Zakynthos is incredible. Ancient routes will take you through olive groves, past centuries old monasteries and up beautiful mountains.
QUIET BEACHES – Greece in Spring
Oh my goodness…the beaches! At this time of year, you can have them to yourself. By May the locals are swimming in the sea. We love to pack up a picnic, load everyone into the car and go on the hunt for a new undiscovered cove or march out for long walks down across the deserted sand.
GREEK EASTER – Greece in Spring
If you aren’t already aware Greek Easter is often held on a different date to ‘English’ Easter. See our Easter Blog for more info. Easter in Greece is huge and a great festival to experience and be part of. The bakeries are full of special Easter cookies and bread. There are beautiful processions, church services and community events. On Easter Sunday itself the Easter fast is broken with the traditional roasting of a lamb on a spit. In our local port of Agios Nikolaos the spit roast lamb is set up on the beach. Its totally idyllic and a very special time of year
A MORE GENTLE PACE – Greece in Spring
It’s difficult how to explain this one. For us there is a beautiful energy on the island in spring. Everyone feels rested after the quiet winter and is excited about getting ready for the summer ahead. People have time to talk and chat. Taverna owners will often sit down and join you for a drink and gossip, something there just isn’t time for in the heat of the summer. We find it a really wonderful time of year for socialising and feeling part of the island life.

Spring for us is just a magical time of year to visit Zakynthos. As soon as the schools finish for the Easter break we jump on a flight and can’t wait to land on the island. It has been made so much easier now with Easy Jet sorting their direct flights earlier than ever before. As soon as we get off the plane the Greek sun warms our bones and we know that the long winter is over. Getting outside after a cold, wet English winter is good for the soul and for our bodies! Long walks, beach picnics and lazy lunches are the order of the day. We are lucky that all of The Asteri Villa pools are heated so the kids can splash around and we can laze about in the gloriously warm Jacuzzis.
