Villa in Zakynthos – OUR TOP BEACHES

Villa in Zakynthos – Best for Family – Alykes

Probably our absolute favourite has to be the amazing sandy beach at Alykes. This beach is perfect for families with small children. This pristine wide beach leads to a long shallow ocean shelf and is therefore safe for children to  paddle in the shallows. There are plenty of cheap sun beds for hire. Our favourite place to stop and relax is outside FISH restaurant. It actually feels as if you are at a swish beach club. There is waitress service, pristine toilets and an amazing menu.

The shopping at Alykes is worth visiting for alone since there are a number of individual shops selling beautiful handcrafted clothes and gifts. Our favourite is run by the lovely Megan Lewis at Anemos down the south end of Alykes main street.

Alyknes is connected to Alykes. The two beaches make up the Alykon bay. In addition Alykanas has a wide variety of watersports available including paddle boarding, paragliding and windsurfing.

Villa in Zakynthos – Best for Fresh Fish – Bouka

Bouka beach is another unspoilt, sandy family beach. The family resorts of Tsivili and Tragaki are located close to this popular beach. The water here is shallow and safe for children to paddle and swim. This beautiful beach has the added charm of a little harbour. Here you might be able to see traditional Greek fishing boats moored up with local fishermen selling their wares. So why not buy a fresh octopus and BBQ back at your villa in Zakynthos?

Villa in Zakynthos – Best for Stunning Setting

No beach guide in Zakynthos would be complete with mentioning the stunning Navigo beach or ‘Shipwreck Beach” This famous beach frequently appears in many top 10 best beaches in the world. The famous image of the rusting shipwreck has graced the covers of many travel magazines and articles.  Huge steep sided cliffs enclose the stunning beach. Because of the height of these cliffs, this stunning beach is only accessible by boat. The best boat trips leave from the picturesque port of Agios Nikolias (link to our page)

If you do visit, our advice would be to get there as early as possible. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, the sea is always a lot calmer early in the morning whilst the swell around the top of the island can really build in the afternoon and it can all get a bit choppy. Secondly, as this is the most popular attraction on the island the crowds can really start to build in the middle of the day as the big boats from Zakynthos town arrive

You should also note that there are no facilities on the beach so bring everything you need, especially sun cream!

If you don’t fancy visiting by boat, then you can view it from a viewing platform that overlooks the beach. Visitors should take care at the top of these cliffs due to the obvious dangers. So there are many areas that are not fenced off. Be careful: it’s a long way down!

Villa in Zakynthos – Best for Snorkelling

The blue caves of Makris Gialos beach are perfect for snorkelling.  The water is crystal clear as the beach is made up of clean white stones.  It is ideal for floating around watching the underwater life. This little beach is located close the little village of Micro Nisi with its little bay and peaceful restaurant. The North East corner of the island is unspoilt and rugged with many beautiful little coves and fabulous restaurants. There are no large hotels in this area instead visitors tend to stay in private villas. So, if you wish to stay in this beautiful corner of Zakynthos visit our villas page.
