VISIT THE BLUE CAVES- ZAKYNTHOS

Visiting the Blue Caves Zakynthos is a must on any visitor’s travel itinerary. We are so lucky on our beautiful island of Zakynthos to be surrounded with such natural beauty

This the island that has it all such as mountains of lush forests, the verdant olive groves and the beauty of the Ionian Ocean.

Zakynthos is also home to some amazing caves. The Blue Caves are one of the most stunning and popular natural attractions on Zakynthos. These geological formations are located clost to the port of Agios Nikolaos on the exquisite North East corner of the island.  They run from the port right up to the northern tip of Skinari, close to the famous ‘Shipwreck Beach’.

Visit the Blue Caves Zakynthos

The caves are named from the sparkling bright blue waters that can be found in them. They are best visited with small boats that can drive right through the limestone arches and right into the middle. They are an ideal place to visit for experienced divers and snorkelers to explore.

The best time to visit the caves is in the morning and around midday as this is when the sun is at its brightest. The blue colour comes from the reflection of the sun. In the evening as the sun sets the blue is more dulled.

BOAT TOURS

Boat tours to the caves can be collected from the port of Agios Nikolaos. Parking can be tight there so it’s another good reason to get there early in the morning. Two experienced tour operators are the professional Actipis Cruises http://actipiscruises.comand Theodosis Crusies http://theodosiscruises.gr

Grab a boat trip from beautiful Agios Nikolaos

Both of these operators can be booked on the day and in advance. A trip to the Blue Caves can be added on to a longer trip to ‘Shipwreck Beach’ or just as a stand alone itinerary.

For luxury accommodation located close to these beautiful caves then check out The Asteri Collection, Agios Nikolaos, Zakynthos.
