Things to do in Zante Greece

Visit the Blue Caves

Take a boat trip to the island’s famous Blue Caves, located just below the lighthouse at Cape Skinari in the north of Zante. So-called because of the stunningly turquoise water inside the caves.They were discovered by Antonio Komouto in 1897. The glass-bottomed boats go right inside the caves and give you a great view of the marine life below.

Head to Navagio Bay

Also known as Shipwreck Bay and Smugglers’ Cove. Situated near the picturesque mountain village of Volumes. This is one of the most beautiful (and photographed) beaches in the whole of Greece. The story goes that in 1983 an illegal boat carrying cigarettes smashed into rocks nearby before being swept ashore.

Visit Zante Town

The town was rebuilt after many of its buildings were destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. Reconstructed in traditional Venetian style. Wandering the town’s pretty paved streets and squares is a lovely way to spend a few hours. You’ll find a thriving local arts scene, fishing boats dotted along the waterfront. At the end of the harbour, the church of Agios Dionysios. This is where Zante’s patron saint is buried.

Visit the soft sandy beach

Visit the soft sandy beach of Alykes and Alyknes. Only a 15 minute drive from the villas. Here you will find perfect shallow waters and clean wide sandy beaches for the kids to play on. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants. Enjoy a long leisurely lunch, shopping and watersports facilities.

Stunning sunset at Kampi

Take in a stunning sunset at the tiny village of Kampi on the west of the island. If you follow the steep drive to the top of the hill you’ll come across the Shiva cross. This is a memorial to those who lost their lives during the Greek civil war. Standing at the top of the cliff you are around 300m above sea level . This is a perfect position to watch the molten sun disappear into the sea.

Take a boat to the beautiful islet of Marathonisi

Escape by boat to the beautiful islet of Marathonisi which lies in the middle of the Laganas Bay. Shaped like a turtle, it’s also one of the nesting homes of the famed Greek loggerhead turtles. Zante’s National Marine Park monitors visits to ensure the turtles’ natural environment is protected.

Visit Gerakas Beach

A half hour drive south from Laganas Bay will bring you to the beautiful beach of Gerakas. Since 1996 it has been home to the Sea Turtle and Wildlife Information Centre. The only organisation of its kind on the island, and it looks at the rich heritage and wildlife of Zante and works to protect the turtles from extinction.
